SWORDFISH - (DVD) A hacker is blackmailed into assisting a devious hood pull off the heist of a life time. Lots of typing and explosions. Stars John Travolta and Hugh Jackman. Rather bravely John Travolta begins this film with a long tirade against the Hollywood product clearly wallowing in the irony that Swordfish itself is indicative of the brain-dead action-packed Hollywood product or perhaps just not quite realising. Either way the film is a largely predictable one in which things blow up a lot and Halle Berry gets her kit off (hey the film isn't subtle why should I be?). Hugh Jackman - he from X-Men - plays a computer hacker employed by the dastardly Travolta to steal a few billion pounds from the US government but who refuses to play by the rules (despite the presence of Vinnie Jones). Don Cheadle plays an FBI agent on the case. Opening with a genuinely spectacular action sequence the film kicks into high gear early on and doesn't let up. The performances are fine from all concerned and the direction is as flashy as you would expect from the director of Gone In Sixty Seconds. It all boils down to big brash throw away fun and if you like that sort of thing Swordfish is massively entertaining. DVD Version Widescreen: 2.35:1 Anamorphic Stereo: Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) Subtitles: TBA Special Features 'The Making Of Swordfish' 'The Effects In Focus' Commentaries 2 Alternate Endings Hidden Features Trailer Filmographies ... SEVEN (2 DISCS) (DVD) - (WS) Extra-laden DVD edition of David Fincher's disturbing serial killer thriller. In a rain-soaked nameless American city a killer is offing victims in the style of the seven deadly sins. A world weary cop and his eager would-be-replacement take on the case but realise it's more complicated that they originally bargained for. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt star. One of the darker thrillers to have escaped from Hollywood Seven (or as the title sequence would have you put it Se7en) is an impressively bleak crime thriller in which the killer attempts to implicate simply everyone. This rather spectacular double-disc set features a wealth of features including commentary tracks art-work behind the scenes features and various analyses of every aspect of the films production. There are also a handful of deleted scenes including a couple of alternated endings (and - something of a first an alternate beginning too). Like Fight Club this is an excellent film packaged along with some excellent bonus material. Essential for all John Doe fans. ... Love Trainer When the cynical and broken-hearted Katie is employed by glamorous Rebecca to clean her flat Katie starts advising her on her disastrous love life. She becomes Rebecca's love trainer and soon has a career advising rich and famous women on how to keep their men. But will she find love herself? ... Genevieve - (DVD) The drama and spectacle of the London to Brighton Commemoration Run provide the background for this delightful comedy in which friendly rivalry (both automotive and marital) between two couples develops into an almost no-holds-barred race back from Brighton to London. ... Les Miserables - (DVD) Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel this is an epic tale of love honour and obsession against the dramatic background of the French Revolution. Jean Valjean (Liam Neeson - Michael Collins Rob Roy) lives a life on the run for stealing a loaf of bread. Settling in a remote town he devotes himself to the care of the poor including the beautiful young and poverty stricken Fantine (Uma Thurman). When Fantine dies she leaves a daughter Cosette (Claire Danes) who Valjean has become an obsession a hunt begins that will come to a final confrontation on the revolution torn streets of Paris....... ... All The Way: A Decade Of Song A glance down the titles of the this offering makes it clear that there is certainly strong material to be drawn on from what is ostensibly a greatest hits album. Songs such as the multiple award-winning Titanic theme My Heart Will Go On and the huge It’s All coming Back To Me Now have drilled their way into the consciousnesses of a generation and will certainly endure for many years. Alongside such epic pieces as Beauty And The Beast also an Academy Award winner the number 1 hits I’m Your Angel and The Power Of Love and Because You Loved Me the theme from Up Close And Personal they almost demand to be brought together so that Dion’s finest moments can all be appreciated at once. It’s perhaps fortunate then that this collection has not relied upon some of the rather less distinguished items from the back-catalogue to extend its length. Instead the new material represents some of the artist’s strongest work to date. The first single That’s The Way It Is is the epitome of modern pop while elsewhere the songs draw on the classic writing of Ewan MacColl for The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and Dion’s established relationship with Diane Warren for I Want You To Need Me. The centrepiece is the duet with the late Frank Sinatra on the title track All The Way. The perfect balance between old and new this album has something to offer everyone. ...
